Spouse or Child of Japanese National Visa

Personal relationship or status on which the residence is authorized: The spouses of Japanese nationals, the children adopted by Japanese nationals in accordance with the provisions of Article 817-2 of the Civil Code (Law no. 89 of 1896) or those born as the children of Japanese nationals.

Period of stay: 6 months, 1 year, 3 years or 5 years

Applicants must either (A) obtain a Certificate of Eligibility or (B) apply with supporting documents. Please note that the procedure given is only a general one and requirements do vary according to nationality. Please contact the Visa and Consular Section directly to avoid confusion and save time.

Spouse of Japanese Visa

Visa for a legal spouse of a Japanese national to accompany that Japanese spouse to Japan. (Legal spouse means husband or wife. The marriage must be registered in the Japanese national's family register, Koseki.)

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Passport (in original with at least two blank visa pages).
  2. Visa Application Form with QR Code PDF, filled in digitally but signed by hand. (Russian nationals and nationals of NIS (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan) should submit 2 Visa Application Forms with photo.) Hand written applications must use the form Visa Application Form without QR code PDF and must be filled out in block letters.
  3. Photo:
    • Taken less than 6 months before the date of application.
    • Both color and black and white photos are accepted.
    • Approximately 45×45 or 35×45 mm.
    • Facing straight to the camera and with white background.
    • Well centered with room above and below the head.
    • Photo quality, without smears or markings and with no shadow over the face.

A) With Certificate of Eligibility:

  1. Certificate of Eligibility.

B) Supporting documents (without Certificate of Eligibility):

  1. Official copy of the Japanese spouse's family register (Koseki Tohon or Koseki Shohon; issued within the last 3 months).
  2. Personbevis (familjebevis; extract of the population register) from the applicant showing marriage status and name of spouse (issued within the last 3 months with signature and stamp from the tax office).
  3. Certificate of residence (Juminhyo) from the Spouse living in Japan. (If the spouse is living in Sweden, this is not needed.)
  4. Letter of Guarantee PDF from the Japanese spouse who is living in Japan. (If the Japanese spouse is living in Sweden, please contact the visa section for further information.)
  5. Documents showing financial ability of the spouses concerned. One or more of the following:
    1. Certificate of employment (issued within last 3 months).
    2. Copy of the tax returns for last year.
    3. Papers showing last year's income and current finances.
  6. Copy of Swedish residence permit card (if applicable).
  7. Other documents as required by the embassy.

Child of Japanese Visa

Visa for a child of a Japanese national to live in Japan.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Passport (in original with at least two blank visa pages).
  2. Visa Application Form with QR Code PDF, filled in digitally but signed by hand. (Russian nationals and nationals of NIS (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan) should submit 2 Visa Application Forms with photo.) Hand written applications must use the form Visa Application Form without QR code PDF and must be filled out in block letters.
  3. Photo:

  1. Official copy of the Japanese parent's family register (Koseki Tohon or Koseki Shohon). This copy must have been issued within three months prior to application for the visa and must show the registered marriage.
  2. Letter of Guarantee PDF from someone in Japan, preferably a Japanese relative.
  3. Original and one photocopy of the applicant's full birth certificate ("personbevis"). Both parents' names should be mentioned.
  4. Document showing financial ability of the persons concerned.
  5. Copy of Swedish residence permit card (if applicable).
