Visa – General information
Generally, a national of a foreign country who wishes to enter Japan must first obtain a visa. Under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act of Japan, it is stipulated that any foreigner wishing to enter or land in Japan must possess a valid passport and a visa obtained from an embassy or consulate. However, travelers from certain countries (including Swedish citizens) may be eligible to visit Japan without a visa under visa exemption arrangements.
Please note that all information given here is of a general nature. The need of a visa and/or visa application procedures varies according to nationality and purpose of journey to Japan. It may be that when an applicant applies for a visa, he/she is asked to provide documents that have not been mentioned here. To avoid confusion, please contact the Visa and Consular Section directly to confirm the application procedure.
